PURPOSE: The
purpose of this program is to prepare students for employment as phlebotomists. COURSE CONTENT: This program is a planned sequence of instruction consisting of theory, laboratory, and clinical experiences. The following are the course offerings: • Introduction to Health Care • Phlebotomy ENTRANCE/CLINICAL NEEDS: • TABE Test Basic Skills Test • Complete program paperwork • Complete Physical Examination prior to entry LENGTH OF PROGRAM: One Trimester approximately Hours Introduction to Health Care 90 hours Phlebotomy 75 hours TOTALHOURS 165 HOURS BASIC SKILLS REQUIREMENTS (TABE) Not required. Should be 4.0 and above to be successfully LABORATORY/ CLINICAL ACTIVITIES: Students utilize campus skills labs, computer labs and the Human Patient Simulator to practice program skills. Approximately one-half of the program is spent in clinical learning experiences correlating theory instructional and laboratory practice. TIME: Classroom hours 8:30 AM – 2:30 PM Clinical hours 8:30 AM – 2:30 PM UNIFORMS: Students are required to wear the official school Uniform during the entire program (Class and Clinical) TRANSPORTATION: Students must provide their own transportation to and from the campus as well as all clinical settings CERTIFICATION: A national certification is available through an exam offered by the National Health Career Association. To be eligible students must: 1. Have a High School Diploma or equivalency and have completed an NHA approved training program. OR 2. Have a High School Diploma or equivalency and have worked in the field for a minimum of one year. EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES: Opportunities are available on campus to assist with job placement. Students can work at Blood Banks, Hospital Laboratories, Clinics, Physician’s offices. SALARY: Phlebotomist salaries range from $8.00-$10.00hr. NOTE: Different kinds of Financial Aid are available to eligible students and eligible programs.
