PURPOSE: This program is designed to prepare individuals for employment as electrical and electronics technicians or in related occupations in electronics.

PROGRAM CONTENT: The program focuses on broad, transferable skills and stresses understanding and demonstration of the Computer Electronics Industry, planning, management, finance, technical and product skills, underlying principles of technology, labor issues, community issues and health, safety and environmental issues.

The program includes:

                         Direct current (DC), alternating current (AC), analog and digital circuits and troubleshooting

                         Operation

                         Diagnosis and correction of operational problems

                        Training in communication

                         Leadership

                         Human relations

                         Employability skills

                         Safe and efficient work practices

 

Supplemental training is also available for persons previously or currently employed in this occupation.

LENGTH OF PROGRAM: The entire program is 1400 hours, but students can earn a certificate at the completion of the following OCP’s:

OCP A

Electronics Assembler

250 hours

OCP B

Electronics Tester

400 hours

OCP C

Electronics Equipment Repairer

375 hours

OCP D

Electronics Technician

375 hours

 

Minimum basic-skills grade levels required for awarding a Full Program Completion Certificate are 10th grade in Math, and 9th grade in Reading and Language on the TABE Test.

EMPLOYMENT OPORTUNITIES: Jobs could be found as Electronics Technicians, Field Service Engineers, Engineering Assistants and or in related occupations in Electronics.

SALARY: The median hourly salary ranges from $14.92 to $17.99.
