PURPOSE: This program is designed to prepare students for employment or advanced training in a variety of construction and electrical industries.

PROGRAM CONTENT: The course includes the understanding of all aspects of the electricity industry, and demonstrates such elements of the industry as planning, management, finance, technical and production skills, underlying principles of technology, labor, community, health, safety and environmental issues.

LENGTH OF PROGRAM: The entire program is 1200 hours, but students can earn a certificate at the completion of the following OCP’s:

Minimum basic-skills grade levels required for awarding a Full Program Completion Certificate are 9th grade in Math, Reading and Language on the TABE Test.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES: Individuals could work in Engineer offices, industrial manufacturing firms, utility companies, municipalities, stores, contractors and privately owned business.

SALARY: Earnings for electricians vary by specialty and level of responsibility. For example, average hourly earnings of electricians is $21; and average yearly earnings, $46,000.

The demand for qualified electricians is expected to grow as fast as the average for all occupations.
